Biography

Colombian painter and sculptor, born in Medellín in 1984. From an early age he was interested in the History of Art, Music and Goldsmithing, fundamental disciplines in the affirmation of his artistic vocation. From the latter, which he cultivated during adolescence, a curiosity for his sculptural work arose in him. Since he was nineteen years old, the artist has been invited to participate in different auctions, group and solo exhibitions in Colombia and abroad. “I feel enormous admiration for Joaquín Restrepo who has shown, in his works, great sensitivity as an artist with a true capacity for an enviable profession, such as taking bronze sculpture (one of the noblest and most difficult techniques in sculpture), his conceptual proposals that ensure a style of great strength and open doors to an evolution that can bring us great surprises among the new generations of Art in Colombia ”David Manzur

In 2003 Joaquín Restrepo, was invited along with the main artists of his

country, to create sculptures to be auctioned in events organized and executed

by entities such as the Christies House in New York, the National Museum of

Colombia and the Fundación Corazón Verde, in favor of victims of the war in

Colombia.

For 2008 a sculpture of his authorship, the horse entitled "Miserere" of 250 cm

tall made of iron sheets, it was auctioned at the Equsarte gala and

stood out among the best of the night reaching a higher value than the works

of some of the great masters of Colombian art, who also made

part of the bid.

This same record was repeated the following year with his work "Ventana" which gave him

generated high praise from the intellectual and artistic authorities of his country,

as the former president of Colombia Belisario Betancur who wrote:

“Joaquín Restrepo was born anointed by the gods: in his hands the

stone and metal, and the canvas joyfully invites your brush.

During the time linked to the social cause of the Fundación Corazón

Verde, Restrepo has been one of the artists who contributes the most to the success

economic of this foundation, thanks to the success in sales of its pieces in great

format and its reproductions on a smaller scale.

In 2010 she received an invitation to exhibit his work at the Centro de

Conventions of Cartagena de Indias and in the Congress of the Republic of

Colombia. For this occasion he presented his exhibition "Ágora", made up of twenty

of his sculptures, among which his large-format work stood out (280 cm in

height) called "Agora", comprising five male figures in iron and

bronce.

“The talent of the young artist Joaquín Restrepo graces the Congress of the

República, where he was invited to present his exhibition Ágora. The public

you will be able to admire this exhibition in the Salón Constitución "

2011 began its internationalization by participating twice in the Shanghai

Art Fair, one of the most recognized and prestigious art events

performed every year in Asia. In April he exhibited two of his works in bronze called

“Selah” and “Ágora” in the Latin American Pavilion (LAP), a space for the

dissemination of contemporary Latin American art, a place to promote the

most influential voices on the continent and new artists.

"One of the most recognized art meetings in the world held every year

in China, the number one country in the world art market, this year will have

one of the great promises of Latin American art that, at only 26 years old,

is already considered a teacher "

In August he was part of the homage to maestro Ómar Rayo during the auction

organized by the Fundación Corazón Verde, for the benefit of the Rayo Museum.

Restrepo participated with a monumental three-meter work called “Pêrhîbêo”,

along with other teachers who joined the cause.

September he brings it back to Asia to the Shanghai Art Fair with the Bandi Gallery

Strokes in an individual space, this fair goes beyond the Chinese art market

Its aim is to promote the exchange of art and culture between China and the countries

foreign.

The Colombian artist Joaquín Restrepo has just returned to Colombia after

exhibit his works for the second time in the American pavilion of the Fair

Shanghai, which is held for the sixth time, and which brings together an important group

galleries from the United States, a gallery from Latin America and another from the

Republic of Korea.

It is also in the month of September that Medellín receives works by

Joaquin Restrepo. The exhibition called "Agora" was presented for a month

at the Mundo Arte Gallery.

His work is mystical, elegant, overwhelming, telling. A horse, a face, a

naked, they can speak of beauty and at the same time of war and

violence.

In October Joaquín delivered to the capital, within the framework of the Azularte exhibition,

a fish that he created with knives and razors seized by the National Police in the

security operations carried out by the police in the streets of Bogotá. "Ichthys",

name that the fish bears, was present in the 93 park where the

City residents made it part of their days before it was auctioned at

the Club los lizards.

“It will be a fish that represents the transmutation of violence. I chose the knives and

most guilty knives, those who will tell their urban and violent history to the

see them. Violent objects transformed into a symbol of life so that the

community can enjoy and interact, it is a fish that invites to be touched "

stated the artist.
